How to Optimize Your Site from Zero – Part II

How to develop and optimize your site from zero?
This is part two of the series that hopefully will be useful in your SEO life. In this series of tutorials I am going to share some approaches that will teach you to be more efficient and effective when advancing your site via search engine optimization.
In the part one of this SEO optimization tutorial we covered the following steps:
- Plugin Installation
- Adding your site to Search Engines
- Adding your site to the Google webmaster service
- Adding RSS feed into Feedburner service
- Adding RSS feed into RSS aggregators
- Adding your blog into blog rating sites
- Adding your site into catalogs
- Adding your site to Dmoz
- Ping Services
Adding to Social Bookmark Services
I did not talk about Social Bookmarks in the part one, because I wanted to focus on this matter in this part of the series. In my opinion Social Bookmarks is the new evolved form of catalogs. Because the catalogs were being kicked around by the search engine systems, they mutated and became a Social Bookmarks:) Their wider and more convenient services are not only useful for users that visit Social Networking sites to have fun and chit-chat, but also useful for SEO (which means for nerds and us).
Social Bookmarks are developing and improving everyday, which is cool. The methods of working with Social Bookmarks is developing at the same time, and we need to pay close attention to these changes. From the very beginning I was looking for ways to “speed-add” the Social Bookmarks and found several resources that get the job done. Below is the list that I use and recommend to everyone reading this blog:
Socialmarker.com – one of my favorite services. Posting happens in frames. It sorts by bookmarks, news sites, and dofollow. There is a code for sites and blogs.
PostToaster.com – another one of my favorite services and the only one that I found that has 4 ways to name and describe your site. After you entered these variations, this service rotates them when adding to the Social Bookmarks. As you probably guessed, this has a very positive impact on search engines. There is also sorting by bookmarks, news sites, and dofollow.
SocialPoster.com – This service works with 69 social bookmarks and news sites.
You can sort the service by the following:
- News
- Dofollow (for SEO)
- Twitters
- Multy
- Entertainment
- Soft/Webmasters
- Pligg based sites
You can also choose a “Generate links for submit” mode or “Start fast submit in frame”.
Socialmarking.com – has a very impressive base of services – more than 130 of them. The only disadvantage I was able to notice here is that this service only posts the title and the url of your site. If you want to add descriptions and tags you will need to do this by hand, which in my mind defeats the point.
Getting into Top Commentators list
Since your site is new, in order to develop it needs external incoming links. Those links need to be the ones that transfer the link juice to your site. Blogs are great places to accomplish this since you can live comments there. You will need to focus on blogs that have similar theme to yours, and those blogs must have the “Top Commentators” plugin installed.
These blogs are easy to tell – their main page has the “Top Commentators” widget. Usually, the most active Commentators get the direct link from the main page of the blog.
To find blogs in the theme similar to your own with the “Top Commentators” installed is actually pretty easy thing to do. Here is how: open up Google, enter – your theme (SEO, Optimization, Cool Guys, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and so on) “Top Commentators”.
From the blogs found, you will need to make a simple table (unless you can remember everything, I cannot). You will need to enter their PageRank into that table in order to sort the ones with the high PageRank first. You can find a mass page rank checker by entering “mass PageRank checker” into Google. Here is the link.
Now, you will need to choose the “tastiest” blogs and enter them into the excel or better into your iGoogle page’s separate tab. I also use Google RSS reader service and will talk about it in more detail in a separate post. Using iGoogle you will be up to date on when the new posts appear on the blogs you are interested in posting on. Download iGoogle from this link.
This is important, please focus – when leaving comments, it’s important not to leave comments like “Thanks to the author, useful info” or “I have been looking for this, thanks for posting”. These types of comments are usually sent out by spammers, and blog authors will delete them quickly. You have to first read the post, understand it, and then leave meaningful comments, which will not be deleted.
One more important detail – in the box “Your Name” do not enter your keywords. Write in your name or your nickname, and your comment will have more chances for survival.
To help your site develop quickly try to find at least 10-15 blogs with the theme that is close to yours (so the audience you get from it is your target audience) with the “Top Commentators” plugin with a good PageRank, and also with good amount of traffic (by good I mean as large as possible). Visit these blogs regularly and leave good comments. As a result you will be placed in the “Top Commentators” list and this means you will have a direct link from the main page of that blog (maximum PageRank, yeah nice). This will take time and efforts, but results are worth it (can you feel it already).
Commenting in Dofollow Blogs
Commenting in Dofollow blogs will effectively increase your PageRank. The problem is that many blogs have links blocked via rel=”nofollow”. By the way the Wordpress comes with “nofollow” by default.
Fortunately, there is a Dofollow movement in the Internet, that basically works against the nofollow. I wrote about how to find dofollow blogs in the post: “How to increase your PageRank – Hunting for Dofollow Blogs”
You can use various dofollow log programs that I referred to in the article above. Ok, I am going to be cool (or maybe even super cool) and give away another little secret of mine – there are also a dofollow forums. The fresh dofollow forum list can be found here:
I am going to go further here, and offer you my personal list of 4114 dofollow blogs, which are tested and checked constantly:
All of the blogs in the list are english speaking/writing, so you don’t need to learn any other languages besides English. If you think about it, it doesn’t matter where the blog is located at and the language spoken – PageRank transfers to you regardless.
I am going to go ahead and repeat myself again, please keep in mind dofollow moderators are very strict. Leave decent comments and you will get your piece of the pie. Do not spam, please. Spam – is the lowest level, dirty work, and you will only damage your karma (yes, whatever you do eventually comes back to you).
CommentLuv
This word hides a true treasury box in it. This is the treasury box of links to your site by the way. CommentLuv – is a wonderful plugin for Wordpress, that inserts the link to the post on your site, using the RSS feed of your blog. All you need to do is leave a comment on a blog that has this plugin installed and you will see the link right away. Often you can choose which post to link to when leaving your comment.
In order to find CommentLuv blogs all you need to do is enter: batman lovers “Enable CommentLuv”. Instead of “batman lovers” enter your theme, or the theme of your site.
Many CommentLuv blogs have links blocked via nofollow. However, if you try and use your creativity (outside the box thing), you will find blogs that are dofollow and have CommentLuv installed. This is actually very easy to do, using the hints and tips I gave earlier in this post. Let’s say – this will be your homework:)
To readers from another countries – everything I write on this Blog applies to any country and language, unless I specifically say it doesn’t. SEO is international beast and has no limits or boarders. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments, I will be happy to engage.
If your native language is not English, and maybe you are not sure where to get help – use Google Translator.
Note to self:
I hope you liked this post and took something away from it. Some people might say this is giving away the advantage, and some will never do it. I actually look at it differently. I know people reading this blog appreciate the information I share, and even might place a link or two on their sites linking back to this blog. I always say to people, the good things we do – always return in larger quantities. This is especially true in the Internet.
Feel free to ask any questions, suggest anything, or share information useful for everyone in the comments area. I will go work on the next part of this tutorial in the meantime.
Make sure to read Part I and Part III.
