Pill Imprint Codes and IDs for Pharma Traffic – Black Hat SEO Method

Democracy don’t rule the world, You’d better get that in your head; This world is ruled by violence, But I guess that’s better left unsaid.” – Bob Dylan.

Hi everyone and welcome to the blog! I have been pretty busy lately working on some interesting projects. Although I am not able to reveal all the details, I have to say that it has been a challenging adventure which made me learn new skills. Actually I hate when people do that, they say that there is something very cool but they will not tell you. Well, how do we go about it then? I actually will tell you something new and exciting which came about as a result of my endless work online.

So, today once again we will discuss online pharmacy, and of course how to stand out from all those hundreds of other guys (no girls, because girls are only good). Probably many of us reading this blog have had a situation when they have doorways and their shops in the top SERP and still very little traffic. What’s going on? If this happened to you, you have to start dissecting your previous work and go back to the fundamentals. However, you have to do it a smart way. The most important fundamental ingredient to a successful SEO is keyword selection. Today there are gazillion sites selling all kinds of keyword databases in many languages. Also, there are numerous online and offline software available that will help you find and sort your keywords.  Sometimes you will see some words or word combos with some numbers or letters which at first look like garbage. However, these keywords also have a good amount of search requests coming in.

In this post I would like to take a look at a way of getting  low-level traffic using pill codes as our keywords. Today we will talk about so called “pill imprint codes” or “pill ids”. Most of the time, these you see engraved on the pill itself. Let’s begin by saying that these imprints are required by FDA. Imprint codes are used to uniquely identify all hard oral types of medications (pills, capsules, etc.). Pill codes are engraved by the manufacturer and consist of the combination of letters and numbers. These codes are placed on one or both sides of the pill itself. The codes can be the same as the actual name of the pill. Also, please keep in mind that shape and the color of the pill matters as well.

Now, let’s get down to business. Where can we get the pill id database? Right, there is nothing impossible with Google’s help. I know that sounded pretty dorky, but it’s true. To be more precise, it’s drugs.com which is located in the top when you search for “pill imprint codes”. Let’s click on the link and we should end up here. This is a Drug Imprints page, where we see lists of all codes that we were looking for (I mean wow!). A tooth fairy even went through all the pill ids and neatly organized them in alphabetical and alphanumerical orders! Let’s take a closer look at this treasure.

By now we all probably know what ED pills are, if not they are your Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. Yes, these pills have their unique imprint code ids as well. For Viagra it is “Pfizer VGR 25″, “Pfizer VGR 50″ and Pfizer VGR 100″ accordingly.  For Cialis it is “C 5″, “C 10″, and “C 20″. For Levitra it is “BAYER BAYER 5″, “BAYER BAYER 10″, and “BAYER BAYER 20″.

A little take away from my modes experience is – do not get stuck on ED pills, since Antidepressants and Anti-anxiety are just as good (think money). Last time I checked, drugs.com has a little over 10,000 pill code ids. The full list of the keywords you can get from here.

Keep in mind that some pills have the same marking, but different shape, color, and of course the manufacturer is different as well. A good example of this is imprint code “A” have three medications – Axert 12.5 mg, Clarinext reditabs 5 mg, and Aspirin delayed release 325 mg. Also, please remember that these pills have both a brand name and a generic version as well. You can read the detailed info on the imprint code page. On that page you can learn about the code itself, numeric value in mg, manufacturer’s info, color, production shape, medication class, and so on. For example, Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride 500 mg (widely knows as Cipro) has a code of “R 127” and looks like this:

The traffic potential from the pill codes is not the largest in volume, however it is pretty decent. When I experimented with the keyword base above, I had several hundred unique visitors in 24 hours. Here is another little give away, most of this traffic came via Google images, where Google was placing the images with the pill codes as names and keys in the top SERPs. I repeat again, this shouldn’t be the main way of getting pharma traffic, but it is a very good supplemental alternative. One of the largest advantages here is that there is virtually no competition (yet). This means even the most amateur SEO boys can end up in the top SERPs without major efforts.

Hey, while at it check out top SERP for ED pills and you will see that even there is no competition for pill code keywords. These ED pill SERPs are the major money making avenues. Even the low-level top search positions, such as the pill codes have potential of bringing in some serious numbers. The database given above is not targeted for one specific item, but if worked in mass quantities the results will be good. In addition to using these pill code keys it should be a common sense to attach words like “pill”, “drug”, “caps”, “tablet”. I would brainstorm and try something like this: pill id + code or pill code + its name (generic or brand name). You can also add color, medication shape, and others to the pill code. Below are some examples:

e712 pill id

lilly 4717 tablet

m363 drug

If you carefully look at many low-level pharma key databases, you will see keys like these a lot: pill for weight loss, pill 10mg for anxiety and so on. What I am getting at is you can do similar things to the pill code keywords, in order to increase your traffic.  For example, if it’s Viagra 100 mg, one of the keys could be “vgr 100 erectile dysfunction” or if it is Cialis 10 mg, then “C 10 impotence cure“.

In order to at least have any idea of which pills are the most searched for by using the pill id, we visit drugs.com once again and click on the imprint-codes section.

Some of the id pill codes can be found here pharmer.org – where these codes are separated into categories: Analgesics, Benzodiazepines, Muscle Relaxants, Antidepressants, Appetite Suppressants, Sedatives. There is also a forum, where people talk about different ids for medications. If you do a quick general analysis of it,  you can build a basic understanding of what pill imprint codes in which category are the most popular. You can also search for the pill codes via the manufacturer.

You could also search for different imprint codes in Google, and the results in a related searches parse separately.

Also, it’s worth it to create a database using a keyword selection service of your choice, where you can actually see the keywords, search volumes, competition, and so on. For example, if you take the most searched for pill codes and parse keywords based on these top keywords, you will end up with a good size database. This database you will filter keys that do not bring traffic and try different variations, using relevant key add-ons.

seo pills6 300x82 Pill Imprint Codes and IDs for Pharma Traffic Black Hat SEO Method

So, now we went through the meat and potatoes of the idea, now the question is how do we monetize this son of a gun? Does it even make sense to get this traffic coming? Yes it does. The ideal is to build a white site about identifications of all hard oral medication forms, but since the number of pills available is huge and the work required is deadly long, it is not what most of the professional Black Hat SEO boys will shoot for. There are huge advantages to the white site, and the main one is that there is virtually no competition except for the drugs.com. Even the domains for this project are not registered (yet).

From my experience the traffic you get from this idea is very solid and has above average conversion. After working with it, I came to the conclusion that there are 2 types of people – those that want to identify the medication because they don’t know what pill is in their hand at the moment, and the second type is the opposite of the first with a very good knowledge of the medication and know exactly what they want. Of course the second type is the most preferred and the best converting, but I was directing all of the traffic to the main page of the pharma shop site, – since I was working for quantity and not the quality. I can only imagine how the conversion would improve if the traffic was targetted for a specific medication, in other words for quality.
